Plants Also Need Love to Stay Beautiful, Here's What I've Learned

THE JAIME TIMES PLANTS ALSO NEED LOVE TO STAY BEAUTIFUL, HERE'S WHAT I'VE LEARNED

We all have our own ways of coping with the new normal brought by COVID-19 pandemic. But I know that just like me, most of you have turned to plant parenting in finding comfort and inner peace during this trying time. Do you?

I’m not sure if I can call myself a ‘plantito’ but yes, I also devoted some time to emblazoning my room with variants of, I guess, easy-to-manage plants. And they absolutely help me mitigate the impact of this stay-at-home season. To be honest, seeing these plants inside my room gives me a daily dose of good vibes which is an effective encouragement to start my day bright even if the world outside is crumbling apart.

But unfortunately, my amateur gardening skills killed two of my favorite plants. I don’t know what exactly happened. I just placed them to the spot where I think they would look fantastic. I watered them regularly. Swiped up the curtains to let the sunlight in. But days went by and they began to dry up, for some reason. Are these things still not enough to make a beautiful plant last? I think that’s how I’m supposed to grow them.

This tragic ‘plantito’ disaster left an array of important lessons to me. And I want to share it with you. How I wish I’ve learned them earlier so that the two casualties of my first-time gardening journey wouldn’t have to happen.

  • Re-arrange your room first.

I know that it’s going to bring some workloads, but undeniably, re-arranging your room, especially if you’re a first-timer plantito like me, will really be a great start-up. In this way, you can perfectly divide the spaces inside your room, and allocate those spots with ample amount of sunlight exposure for your plants. Most of the time, indoor plants are being misunderstood. People often think that they’re ok with ‘little’ to ‘no’ sunlight supply. But hey! They’re still plants, and undergoing photosynthesis to survive. So don’t deprive them of their basic needs.

  • Call them by their names.

Just like you, plants also have their respective identities. It’s very important to know them by their names because each variant has its own specific necessities that you should provide. There are plants that thrive in dry soil texture. There are also some that love the moist surroundings. They’re all different. So as a plant parent, you should be aware of such distinctions in order to take good care of them, especially in terms of watering and sunlight requirements. Start memorizing their names in your heart.

  • Get plants not just because they’re beautiful, but because you know you’re capable enough to handle them.

Sounds similar when choosing your the one, isn’t it? Choose your ultimate leafy baby while considering your patience, dedication, and capabilities. Keep in mind that plants also have life just like you. So if you’re guilty that you don’t yet have the means and skills to grow a particular plant species, tick it off from your list. There are better people out there who can give them a kind of life they really deserve.
